Damon Albarn has joined the ranks of musicians lining up to criticise Glee.
The Gorillaz and Blur frontman claimed the US TV series would be "forgotten in a few years" and that he would not allow his music to be used on the show.
"We wouldn't let that happen," said Albarn. "And not that they haven't asked us because they haven't, and now they definitely won't."
Now, I'm only peripherally aware of the doings and transpirings in Britpop, but I think it's great that Albarn is so concerned about the legacy of his music. Not many musicians have the artistic vision -- much less the marketing acumen -- to ensure their songs are only used in movies and TV shows that will endure through the generations.
Let's take a look at some of those that have passed Albarn's rigorous litmus test.
The Love Guru -- "Song 2"
Dead Man On Campus -- "Cowboy Song"
Dude, Where's My Car? -- "It Could Be You"
The Eight (TV) -- "Song 2"
Nancy Drew -- "Dare"
The Karate Kid -- "Dirty Harry"
Charlie's Angels -- "Song 2"Talk about your classics. Hell, you could program a medium-sized film festival with the movies and TV shows that use "Song 2" alone. Why, it was even used in that crappy Super Bowl episode of The Simpsons (ob APCB self reference).
In the interest of embarrassing full disclosure, I write a weekly Glee recap over on the Houston Press' Art Attack blog. I do this for two reasons: they asked, and it pays. I won't be defending a show that often sends me into uncontrollable muscle spasms of rage, but I find it interesting that Albarn appears to have no problem letting his music get play on some of the most horrendous crap released in the last 15 years.
And the best part is, they haven't even asked him yet. Apparently this is some kind of pre-emptive strike against Ryan Murphy, who will undoubtedly run out of Streisand and show tunes some time around 2025. And not to make any predictions about the future of Gorillaz or any of Albarn's side projects, but he might just want to consider it at that point.
I just wish I could find the actual TV spot for Starship Troopers that used "Song 2"...

the power of makeup.
This is AMAZING. I wonder if this girl goes out just to see what happens. I am FLOORED at how much she looks like him after all the makeup. WOW. Guess we know who she is being this Halloween. XD
When I upload I always upload from sendspace just it bums me out how it's only up for 7 days if NO ONE downloads it, so far all my stuff is always being downloaded so it's ok, but I know a few months from now it'd stuff unless I pimp the links and I hate rehashing stuff, so for now I am going to use mediafire just to see how it goes. I like how I can upload more than 5 items at a time, so I can let it run and come back in 30 mins. I'll edit this post with the uploads when it's done.
Woke up early to back up stuff, I had over 80gbs of kpop that was unorganized and so I organized it all, burned it, labeled it and booked it. I really need a freakin' passport/memory books, the whole dvd-r thing is getting old and takes up SO MUCH SPACE. I figure i'll buy one or two on black Friday. They are getting cheaper as time goes by, but space wise, why do the 500MB exist? Is 500MB enough for people? I can fill that up in 2-3 days, especially with everything being ripped at 320kb and mv/pv's the norm is easily 180-250 EACH. Maybe I need to be more selective and not dload everything. Any good forums for kpop that I should know of? Clearly the SuJu fandom isn't massive on livejournal, been on sj-world and it's alright and there is the http://www.super-legacy.com/forums/ but the layout/rules/style is KILLING ME. There is a points system? Wat? WHAT? I can't handle that. Plus at sj-world my paragraph about Heechul was considered spam but people's 3 lines of (actual copy and paste from the form ->) "yeah! blonde doesn't suit him at all.. i love the red color!! so cool..hahaha!" But that isn't spam? Hmm..

Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience continues across America this month so far a small sprinkling of You Tube clips have surfaced. If you are attending the show we would welcome a full review. Here’s an excellent interview with Jason prior to the first show which also features veteran writer and Zep biographer Ritchie Yorke.
TBL was sad to hear that Soul, gospel and rock singer Solomon Burke had died on October 10 at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport. He was 70.
Burke, who was a Grammy winner and a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, had been due to perform together with the Dutch band The Dijk at the Paradiso in Amsterdam.
Solomon Burke wrote the song Everybody Needs Somebody To Love in 1964 and it was later covered by a variety of artists including The Rolling Stones and Wilson Pickett -and perhaps most famously by the Blues Brothers. Led Zeppelin often incorporated the song within the live Whole Lotta Love medley circa 72/73 and The Firm also covered it live.
He also recorded the hit song Cry to Me for the movie Dirty Dancing and the emotive None Of Us Are Free. The late Atlantic Records producer Jerry Wexler once described Soloman as ”The best soul singer of all time”.
Here’s a great clip of Shake Rattle And Roll from Jools Holland’s Hogmanay in 2003 featuring Solomon Burke, Tom Jones, Jeff Beck and Robert Plant:
And finely, here is a clip of the Carlos Santana and Chris Cornell version of Whole Lotta Love, taken from Santana’s new album Guitar Heaven, an album of cover versions of some of the greatest guitar anthems of all time. Go to www.santana.com for more samples including the excellent I Ain’t Superstitious featuring Jonny Lang
